2024 Australian Open Day 3: Swiatek, Raducanu, Pegula, Rybakina all progress

Alcaraz, Ruud, Rune, Zverev all through the R2

Women’s world number one Iga Swiatek booked her place in the second round of the 2024 Australian Open with a straight sets win over Sofia Kenin. The Pole claimed a 7-6 6-2 win to progress from the first round clash.

One-time Grand Slam winner Emma Raducanu eased her way into the second round of the 2024 Australian Open. She defeated Shelby Rodgers in straight sets 6-3 6-2 to progress from the first round in Melbourne.

Elena Rybakina also qualified for the second round of the tournament following a straight sets win over Karolina Pliskova. The third seed won the match 7-6 6-4 to progress in the competition.

Fifth seed Jessica Pegula defeated Rebecca Marino in straight sets to book her passage into the second round. The American won the meeting 6-2 6-4 to qualify.

11th seed Jelena Ostapenko claimed a 7-6 6-1 straight sets win over the unseeded Kimberly Birrell to reach the second round of the tournament.

In the men’s draw, Carlos Alcaraz began his campaign with a convincing win over Richard Gasquet. The second seed defeated the experienced Frenchman 7-6 6-1 6-2 in straight sets to reach the second round.

Sixth seed Alexander Zverev did not allow his off-the-court issues to deter him from reaching the second round of the 2024 Australian Open. He defeated compatriot Dominik Koepfer in four sets 4-6 6-3 7-6 6-3 to progress.

Eighth seed Holger Rune defeated Yoshihito Nishioka in four sets to reach the second round of the tournament. The Dane won the match 6-2 4-6 7-6 6-4 to advance from the first round meeting.

Casper Ruud made light work of Spaniard Albert Ramos-Vinolas with a straight sets win in their first round meeting in Melbourne. The 11th seed picked up a 6-1 6-3 6-1 win over his opponent to progress.

Cameron Norrie defeated Juan Pablo Varillas in straight sets to reach the second round. The British 19th seed claimed a 6-4 6-4 6-2 win in the encounter to advance from the first round.
