2025 FIFA CWC: What Javier Mascherano said after Inter Miami were forced to a goalless draw by Al Ahly
Inter Miami coach Javier Mascherano has shared his thoughts after his team’s 0-0 draw against Al Ahly in the FIFA Club World Cup group stage on Saturday.
Al Ahly were the stronger side in the first half but could not find the back of the net. Inter Miami’s goalkeeper, Oscar Ustari, put in an excellent performance with several top saves. His most important moment came in the 43rd minute when he kept out Trezeguet’s penalty.
Inter Miami improved in the second half and enjoyed more of the ball. Lionel Messi had a few chances but could not break the deadlock at the Hard Rock Stadium.
Speaking after the match, Mascherano said he was pleased with how his team played.
“We wanted to win, but even so, I am happy with the team’s performance today,” said the Argentine.
“Football is like that. If we look at the whole match, I think we were better today. We were much better than Al Ahly in the second half. We controlled the ball. We had chances to score and win the game.”
