Stokes to make T20 comeback, Vince and Dawson dropped

Ben Stokes will make his first Twenty20 comeback for England against Pakistan, but James Vince and Liam Dawson have been left out of the squad for a one-off match on September 7.

All-rounder Stokes has not played for his country in the shortest format since Carlos Brathwaite smashed him for four sixes in a dramatic final over of the World Twenty20 final in April to give West Indies an astonishing win.

Stokes missed the eight-wicket win over Sri Lanka in July, but will be back in action at Old Trafford after playing his part in the one-day international series triumph over Pakistan.

Paceman Mark Wood also returns after recovering from injury to impress with the ball in the ODI series, which England lead 3-0 with two games still to play.

Out-of-form batsman Vince was omitted from the ODI squad after a poor Test series and has also been overlooked for the T20 in Manchester along with Hampshire team-mate Dawson.

Jonny Bairstow and Dawid Malan also miss out, but Alex Hales – who smashed England’s highest ODI total of 177 in a victory at Trent Bridge on Tuesday in which Eoin Morgan’s side posted a world-record 444-3 – returns along with Moeen Ali and Joe Root after all three were rested for the win over Sri Lanka.

England squad:

Eoin Morgan (captain), Moeen Ali, Sam Billings, Jos Buttler, Alex Hales, Chris Jordan, Tymal Mills, Liam Plunkett, Adil Rashid, Joe Root, Jason Roy, Ben Stokes, David Willey, Mark Wood.
