Brook: I´m a different level to Golovkin victims

Kell Brook believes he will succeed where fellow Britons have failed when he attempts to take down fearsome knockout artist Gennady Golovkin at London’s O2 Arena on Saturday.

Kazakh superstar Golovkin, 34, is the unified WBC, IBF and WBA middleweight king and stands unbeaten in 35 professional contests, with 32 of his opponents not managing to hear the final bell.

Those victims include former British champions Matthew Macklin and Martin Murray, with Brook next in line.

The undefeated 30-year-old IBF welterweight ruler is stepping up two divisions to 160lbs for the first time in his career but is undaunted by the task at hand, believing he is a class above other fighters cut down by Golovkin’s blazing fists.

Asked whether he had picked the brains of Macklin and Murray, Brook said: “Not really. I spoke to Macklin but I’m a different fighter to them.

“I’ve seen it all. You know yourself, they are not on my level. I bring something completely different to the table than Macklin and Murray. I don’t know how to lose, I’m spiteful.

“[Golovkin] keeps going on about a ‘big drama fight’ and I think it will be the best fight you’ve ever seen.

“It will be unbelievable. We are completely different fighters to them other British fighters.”

Brook will not pore over videos of Golovkin before the capital clash despite being convinced he is stepping into the ring with the best boxer in the world.

“I don’t ever watch videos of who I’m going to fight,” he explained. “I’ve seen him fight, I know the style. He is very, very good at what he does.

“Win, lose or draw, I’ll know I’ve been in with the man. There is no better fighter out there in world boxing.

“I’ve been telling everyone I want to fight the best and this guy is the man.”
