Afeez Aremu: Ikorodu will help Rivers pip Rangers to NPFL title

Afeez Aremu is confident Rivers United will win the 2015/16 NPFL title because Rangers will fall to Ikorodu in Abeokuta.

The midfielder is sure Rivers United will win their next two matches despite away woes and Ikorodu will beat Rangers in their next match.

Afeez Aremu also said Rivers were very unfortunate to have lost to Wikki Tourists last weekend because the team prepared for the match like it was a final, and it was one of the best away matches they’ve played so far this season.

“Nothing much. We were well determined for the match against Wikki and also we played well but at the end of the match we found we lost 1-0. I can tell you that it was one of the best away matches we played so far.”

When asked about Rivers chances of winning the title considering they are one point behind Rangers with two games to go he said:”I promise we are going to win our two remaining matches to be the NPFL champions. We have two matches, one home and one away, Rangers are hoping to win Ikorodu and that’s not possible for them.”

Sportlineng.com asked why he said it is impossible for Rangers to beat Ikorodu United, Aremu replied: “I know they are relegated already, but the Ikorodu boys are playing for other clubs to see them against next season and also playing for their matches bonuses.

“You can see they defeated big teams in NPFL so far Enyimba and also Kano Pillars, so I doubt Rangers will beat Ikorodu on their ground.”

He said he is aware they must step up against Akwa United in their last game of the season considering their poor away form, but the midfielder said Rivers have an edge.

“I know the match against Akwa United won’t be easy for us and also it will be easy for us.

“The advantage we have is that our match against Akwa United will be televised live and we are going to put everything we have to make sure we secure the three points and leave “The nest of champions” as NFPL champions.”
