21st Nestle Milo Basketball Championship dunks off May 3

The 21st edition of the Nestle Milo Basketball Championship for Junior and Senior Secondary schools starts next month with over 10,000 schools almost completing registration formalities online for the preliminaries.

At a press briefing today in Ilupeju, Lagos, the Managing Director of Nestle Nigeria PLC Mauricio Alarcon, said that the company will continue to use basketball as a tool to contribute to well being of the Nigerian child.

“In line with our purpose, which is enhancing quality of life and contributing to a healthier future, we therefore encourage children to be active through sports programmes.

“Nestle Milo Championship also provides a platform to help children imbibe life skills and values which enable them to be successful in any area of their lives, on or off the court.
“Our overall target is turning them to champions and guiding them by providing that platform to help them imbibe the skills and values which enable them to be successful in any aspect of their lives.”

The teams will be divided into conferences according to the geographic location of the states .

The Savannah conference comprising Bauchi, Adamawa, Plateau, Kano, Gombe, Jigawa, Borno, Katsina, Yobe and Taraba will start competitions from May 3 to 8 in Bauchi while the Central Conference made up of Benue, Kaduna, Kebbi, Kogi, Nasarawa, Niger, Sokoto, Zamfara and the FCT will play their games in Minna from May 10 to 15.

The Equatorial Conference will feature teams from Abia, Akwa Ibom, Anambra, Imo, Rivers, Cross River, Bayelsa and Ebonyi. They will play their matches in Enugu from May 17 to 22 while the Western Conference made up of Delta, Edo, Ekiti, Kwara, Lagos , Ogun, Ondo, Osun and Oyo will play in Ibadan from May 24 to 29.

Each state will produce a male and a female champion including the FCT while the state champions will play in the four regional conferences where they will compete for spaces in the National finals billed for the National stadium Lagos from June 27 to July 4, 2019.

Champions in the 4 Conferences will vie for the grand prize, champions trophy, basketball kits. Cash awards and Milo goodie bags.
