Mourinho: Just like Willian and Di Maria – Mkhitaryan needs time

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho has likened the situation of Henrikh Mkhitaryan who has struggled to make an impact since his summer move from Dortmund to that of his former players Willian and Di Maria.

The manager while addressing the journalists ahead of Saturday’s clash with Burnley said the Armenian playmaker is 100% fit and not injured but needs time to adjust to his system and English football before he could be regular for the club.

“Mkhitaryan is not injured, Mkhitaryan is training with the team 100%,” insists Mourinho. “Not injury, sometimes I confuse the meaning ‘fit’ in English language. Sometimes fit is ready to compete.

“Some players are really adapted to come and play and not to feel. Some players they need time, to feel it, to feel the intensity, time to feel the aggression, the game without the ball.

“I don’t want to be misinterpreted but I don’t think he will be upset with me. Willian when he arrived at Chelsea he had problems, he went through a process and the next season he was a champion he was phenomenal and he still is. I had similar with Di Maria when he came from Portugal. Sometimes it happens.”
