3.8m and Golden boot: Charles Akuneto receives his NPFL top scorer prize
For emerging top scorer of the NPFL in the 2021/2022 season with 19 goals, Chijioke Akuneto has received his Golden boot and cash reward of 3.8 million naira from the award sponsors Eunisell .
Akuneto scored 19 goals to help Rivers United FC clinch the NPFL title in August 2022.
The Forward received his prize on Wednesday September 14 . The Eunisell prize instituted in 2018 by the oil and gas company rewards NPFL top scorers with 200 thousand Naira per goal scored .
Akuneto’s 19 goals thus earns him 3.8 million naira from Eunisell plus the Golden boot award .
The forward scored a stoppage time goal in the CHAN qualification second leg game between Nigeria and Ghana to level aggregate score and send the tie to the lottery of the shootout where Ghana edged the Eagles.
Club-less at the moment following the expiration of his contract with Rivers United FC, Akuneto will fancy a move abroad as is culture with previous winners of the Eunisell prize .
Junior Lokosa won the inaugural award in 2018 while the duo of Silas Nwankwo and Charles Atsimene claimed 3.8 million naira each as top scorers of the 2020/2021 season .
Other winners of the Eunisell prize are Mfon Udoh and Sanusi Ibrahim (2019) and Isreal Abia (2020) .
