Wikki’s Shammah Tanze lauds officiating, blames loss to MFM FC on poor finishing

Wikki Tourists striker Shammah Tanze has praised the officiating he witnessed at the Soccer Temple Stadium, Agege on Matchday six of the 2017/2018 Nigeria Professional Football League season on Wednesday.

The former Nasarawa United striker who was on the losing side on Wednesday as Wikki Tourist went down 2-1 to MFM FC in Lagos said he and his teammates must shoulder the blame for their defeat because of the chances they squandered.

Adebayo Waheed put the host ahead in the 5th minute, sliding in a ball from Akila Jesse. Shammah Tanze was elbowed by Abisoye in MFM FC’s box to give the visitors a chance to level from the spot – a chance which was well converted by Nafiu Kabunga. MFM FC restored their lead just before the break with a goal from Akila Jesse to make it three straight home wins for the Olukoya boys this season.

While addressing the newsmen after the game, Shamma stressed that teams who failed to convert their chances can’t win games.

“The officiating was very fair, we had a good game but it’s unfortunate that we lost the match. At a point we were dominating but we didn’t take our chances and that’s football.

“The season is just starting, and we have been on our goalscoring form, we have being creating more chances and we believe the goals will come.”

Up next for Wikki Tourists who have scored four goals and sipped in five this season is a trip to Uyo to play Akwa United on Sunday in one of the NPFL Matchday seven fixtures.
