NPFL Matchday 11 Review: Lokosa first to reach double mark, Lobi win away

Kano Pillars Junior Lokosa continued his impressive run as chalked his 10th of the season to become the first player to hit the double figure in the NPFL 2017-18 season.

Only seven games were played in the Nigeria Professional Football League round 11 fixtures as games involving Plateau United, MFM FC, Akwa United and Enyimba were postponed because of their involvement in CAF Competitions.

A total of nine goals were scored across the federation and there was an away win for Lobi Stars of Markurdi against Heartland of Owerri.

Kano 2-0 Go Round United

In Kano, at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Junior Lokosa showed no sign of relenting as he scored his 10th of the season in 11 games played, although he had to wait until the 85th minute of the game after missing from the 12 yards in the 29th minute.

After Junior Lokosa’s penalty miss, Kano Pillars were awarded another penalty after Chris Kpekpe handled Victor Dennis ball in the 55th minute and Alassan Ibrahim stepped up to put Kano Pillars in front from the spot.

Five minutes to the end of the game, Junior Lokosa redeemed himself by scoring his 1oth of the season off Salisu Mustapha assist.

The victory takes Kano Pillars to the summit with 20 points and Go Round 19th with 10 points.

Heartland 0-1 Lobi Stars

In Nnewi, at FC Ifeanyiubah Stadium (Heartland’s temporary home ground following rehabilitation work at the Dan Anyiam Stadium), Lobi Stars stunned Heartland FC in front of their fans to claim the only away win of the round 11 fixture. Samad Kadiri finished off Sanou’s pass in the 25 minute ensured Lobi Stars took all the points in Owerri on Sunday.

Both teams ended the game with ten men after Heartland’s Fuad Ekelojuoti was sent off for the second bookable offence in the 86th minute and Lobi’s Ekene Olisema saw red for the same offence.

Lobi Stars now joint top with 20 points while Heartland are on 13th position with 13 points.

Sunshine 1-1 Rangers

In Akure, At the Akure Township Stadium, Sunshine Stars forced their visitors Enugu Rangers to a 1-1 draw. Ifeanyi George gave Rangers the lead in the 28th minute of the clash before Nojeem Raji equalized for the hosts in the 43rd minute.

The draw took Rangers to 8th position on the log while Sunshine Stars are occupying the 13th position.

Nasarawa United 1-0 Wikki Tourists

In Lafia, at the Lafia Township Stadium, Nasarawa United pipped ten-man Wikki Tourist. Three minutes after Abba Umar was sent off for elbowing an opponent, Mohammed Suleiman put Nasarawa United in front the 58th minute.

Nasarawa now 12th of the log while Wikki Tourists are occupying the 17th position

Rivers United 1-1 FC Ifeanyiubah

In Portharcourt, at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium, Late Salefu Ochowechi goal canceled out Onyekachi Chidume penalty after Rotimi Sunday was giving his marching orders and penalty awarded after he fell Pascal Seka.

Salefu Ochowechi stunning goal from 18 yards was assisted by Osita Chikere. FCIU also got a player sent off Sadiq Abdulrazak got his marching orders for a second bookable offence.

Abia Warriors also beat Kwara United 1-0 while EL Kanemi Warriors and Niger Tornadoes played a goalless draw.
