Sporting events that bookmakers look forward to

Sports and betting have a very long history, with many sports and betting companies intrinsically linked.

If you watch a football match anywhere in the world you will see some kind of advert trying to convince you to bet on the next goal.

Boxers sometimes have trunks bearing bookies logos, some Horse racing events have jockey’s sponsored by a specific bookmaker. We have even seen who leagues and cup competitions sponsored by bookmakers, it is clearer than ever that betting is a part of sport and there is going to be little that will change that anytime soon.

It seems like you can bet on anything and everything, some bookmakers even have a service where you can write into them and ask for odds on something happening. There have been famous cases of people betting on their children to become famous sports people. Ryan Tunnicliffe’s father, for example, bet that he would play for Manchester United when Ryan was only nine years old at 100-1 odds. When he came on as as substitute for the club in a League Cup game against Newcastle, in 2012, his dad picked up a cool £10,000.

For the bookmakers though there are some events that stand out more than other, some which are a little more special than the rest, the ones which they look forward to as they know that money will be piling into their pockets.

They are events they actually have to prepare for, sometimes they will hire more staff for these events, such is the demand and they will always have special offers and deals to entice people to bet during these times of high volume and then hope to keep them later. These events are often, not even the biggest ones in sport, the World Cup Final, for example doesn’t see a massive spike. Sure there will be spikes during the big event in Russia, but they won’t be as sharp as with other events. Here are two examples of these kinds of events, the ones that they will already be gearing up for and getting excited.

The Grand National (Horse Racing)

Horse racing is quite popular in the United Kingdom, but its not particularly massive when compared to other sports like Cricket, Tennis, Rugby and, of course, football. People might watch the odd race and have the odd flutter but when the Grand National comes around the country is gripped by Horse Racing fever. So much so that around £300 million worth of bets were made on the event last year. You can see how seriously the bookmakers take it as they roll out amazing offers, like the ones here: https://freebets.uk/freebet/grand-national-free-bets/ which can allow you to bet for free on the national. It always brings people to Liverpool and eyes to TV screens.

A Boxing Super Fight (Boxing)

It doesn’t really matter who is fighting as long as it is going to bring in huge PPV revenue. The biggest fights bring in huge amounts of money for bookmakers who know that people get excited about big fights and thus spend big money. In fact, according to ESPN.com, one bookmakers took a bet of  $1 million dollars on Floyd Mayweather to beat Conor McGregor. The huge fighters get the huge sums.
