Carl Ikeme to be special guest when Nigeria play England at Wembley in June

Carl Ikeme has been invited to be the special guest of honour when the Super Eagles of Nigeria tackle The Three Lions of England in an International friendly in June.

If you have been following Gernot Rohr’s Super Eagles you will know a position is lagging and the man whose absence is highly felt is Wolverhampton goalkeeper Carl Ikeme.

Recently, Gernot Rohr was quoted a Polish journo Przegląd Sportowy to have said Carl Ikeme’s absence is a major problem for the team.

“It is true. Our problem is Ikeme’s illness (he was diagnosed with leukemia)”, said Rohr.

During a courtesy visit to Csrl Ikeme at the Manchester hospital where he is currently receiving treatment, the NFF President gave him the honour to be the special guest at the International friendly between Nigeria and England scheduled for June 2 at Wembley Stadium.

Pinnick said: “We have come on behalf of the Government of Nigeria and the NFF to check up on you, find out how your recovery is going and to tell you that you are still very much on our minds and a member of the Super Eagles of Nigeria.

“We have also come to seek your permission to be our special guest at the pre- World Cup friendly game against England at the Wembley Stadium on 2nd June. We want you to perform the customary kick-off of that game and if you approve of it, we will immediately request this of The Football Association.”
