Cavs roll on, Clippers beat Davis-less Pelicans and Hornets lose again

LeBron James led the Cleveland Cavaliers past the lowly Philadelphia 76ers 95-85 in the NBA on Sunday.

James stole the show with a season-high 37 points, nine assists and seven rebounds as the in-form Cavaliers extended their winning streak to seven games.

“They look at me as the leader of this team and I’ve got to be that way all year round,” James said. “They needed me a lot tonight and I was able to come through.”

Kevin Love (15 points, 15 rebounds) and Tristan Thompson (10 points, 10 rebounds) had double-doubles for the Cavs, while J.R. Smith contributed 14 points.

The 76ers were led by Jahlil Okafor (21 points) and Ish Smith (18 points, 10 assists).

A 114-111 overtime win against the New Orleans Pelicans saw the Los Angeles Clippers to a ninth consecutive victory.

The high-flying Clippers made the most of the absence of Pelicans star Anthony Davis as Chris Paul and Jamal Crawford produced big numbers.

Paul registered 25 points and 11 assists, while Crawford chopped in with 21 points.

At the other end of the spectrum, the Charlotte Hornets crashed to a seventh straight defeat.

The Denver Nuggets triumphed 95-92 over the struggling Hornets, despite failing to score during the final four minutes at home.

Elsewhere, the Portland Trail Blazers snapped a three-game losing streak courtesy of a 115-110 victory against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

The Houston Rockets rallied to beat the Indiana Pacers 107-103 in overtime, the New York Knicks accounted for the Milwaukee Bucks 100-88, the Dallas Mavericks downed the Minnesota Timberwolves 93-87, the Boston Celtics lost 101-98 to the Memphis Grizzlies and the Utah Jazz saw off the Los Angeles Lakers 86-74.
