El Kanemi Warriors beat Abia Warriors to be crowned President Federation Cup champions
Newly promoted Nigeria Premier Football League side, El-Kanemi Warriors of Maiduguri, have clinched the 2024 President Federation Cup, marking their first victory in the tournament in 32 years. This victory also secures their participation in the 2024/25 CAF Confederation Cup.
Dominant Performance in the Final
El-Kanemi Warriors defeated Abia Warriors 2-0 in the final held at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Lagos on Saturday. Nasir Salihu was the hero of the match, scoring in both halves to lead the Warriors to victory. The win also comes with a prize of 50 million naira for the team.
Nasir looked like he would be the villain when he missed a penalty kick early in the match but the number ten stepped up to redeem himself and his team with two well-taken goals.
Rivers Angels Win Ninth Federation Cup Title
In the women’s category, Rivers Angels secured their ninth Federation Cup title with a narrow 1-0 victory over first-time finalists Naija Ratels at the same venue. The match-winning goal came from a penalty just before halftime, helping the Angels to maintain their dominance in Nigerian women’s football.
Celebrations and Future Prospects
The victory is a significant milestone for El-Kanemi Warriors as they prepare for their return to continental competition. Rivers Angels, on the other hand, continue to solidify their legacy as one of the top women’s football teams in Nigeria.
