Super Falcons winger Francesca Ordega refutes allegations of favoritism for Paris 2024 Olympics
Super Falcons winger Francesca Ordega has addressed recent social media rumors suggesting that she was being forced onto the senior national team by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) for the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
During an Instagram Live session, Ordega expressed her frustration with the baseless claims and revealed that she had a conversation with the Super Falcons head coach, Randy Waldrum, regarding the reports. Ordega stated that Waldrum denied any truth to the allegations.
“I was so devastated when I read the report that I had to speak with the head coach, Randy Waldrum first before making any comment on it. We spoke at length and he denied the allegation,” Ordega shared. “Journalists or social media influencers need to verify their information before putting it in public space. Fake reports can dent people’s careers and it is more reason information should be properly cross-checked before they are pushed out.”
Ordega emphasised that her consistent performance for her Russian club, CSKA Moscow, and her past contributions to the Falcons should be the basis for her selection, not favoritism. She is currently the second-highest scorer in the Russian Women’s League with six goals from 12 games. However, her last appearance for the Falcons was in 2023.
The Super Falcons list for the Olympic preparations is yet to be released, and Ordega hopes to be included based on her merits and contributions to the team.
