CAF clears Ojo Olorunleke’s club for 2024/25 Champions League

Super Eagles goalkeeper Ojo Olorunleke will participate in the 2024/25 Champions League after the Confederation of African Football (CAF) confirmed the inclusion of Sudanese clubs in the competition.

Olorunleke recently transferred from Nigeria Premier Football League champions Enyimba to Sudanese club Al-Merreikh, signing a two-year contract with the Red Devils.

Al-Merreikh and Al-Hilal will compete in the Champions League, while Al-Wadi Nyala will participate in the Confederation Cup. This follows the endorsement of the Club Competitions Licensing Committee and the approval of the Sudanese Super League, which was held in Tanzania.

The successful inclusion of these clubs is a result of the diligent efforts by the Sudanese Football Association (SFA) and its Chairman, Dr. Moatasim Jaafar Sir Al-Khatm, who is also a member of the CAF Executive Committee.

Osama Atta Al-Mannan, the First Deputy Chairman of the SFA, assured that Sudanese clubs would face no issues in participating in this season’s CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup. He praised the efforts of Dr. Moatasim Jaafar in securing the approval for the clubs’ participation according to the standards of the Sudanese Super League.

This development ensures that Ojo Olorunleke will have the opportunity to showcase his talents on a larger stage, representing Al-Merreikh in the prestigious Champions League competition.

Ojo has experience in the competition having represented Enyimba FC in the competition previously.
