Godswill Akpabio Int’l stadium to host Rangers and Enyimba continental games
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially released the list of stadiums that will host the next round of matches in the CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup. According to the list, Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo is the only Nigerian stadium selected to host these prestigious inter-club competitions.
Out of the four Nigerian clubs that entered this season’s inter-club competitions, only two have advanced to the second round of the preliminary stages.
NPFL Champions, Rangers International secured their spot in the next round of the CAF Champions League after defeating US Zilimadjou of Comoros in the first round, staged at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo. Meanwhile, Enyimba International, one of Nigeria’s most successful football clubs, was drawn bye and automatically advanced to the second round.
The second round of the preliminary matches is scheduled to take place in September, with Godswill Akpabio Stadium set to play a crucial role as the home ground for Nigeria’s representatives.
The stadium, known for its world-class facilities and passionate fans, will provide a strong home advantage for the Nigerian clubs as they aim to advance further in the competitions.
The announcement further shows the importance of Goodswill Akpabio Stadium in Nigerian football, especially as it remains the sole venue from the country approved by CAF for this stage of the tournaments. Also, Nigeria’s Super Eagles will use the facility for the 2025 AFCON qualification clash against Benin Republic.
The performances of Rangers and Enyimba in the upcoming matches will be closely watched as they continue their campaigns on the continental stage.
