Victor Osimhen’s former club, VfL Wolfsburg, has thrown its weight behind Bruno Labbadia, who has been appointed as the new head coach of the Super Eagles.
The Bundesliga side, where Osimhen honed his skills between 2017 and 2019, expressed their enthusiasm for Labbadia’s new role through their official X page on Wednesday.
“Good luck, Bruno! You get a good coach, Eagles,” Wolfsburg posted, highlighting their confidence in the 58-year-old German’s ability to lead the Nigerian team.
Labbadia, who steps in following Finidi George’s departure in June, brings a wealth of experience to the Super Eagles.
His coaching resume includes a stint at Wolfsburg, where he guided the team to a 16th-place finish in the Bundesliga.
The task ahead is clear for Labbadia. With the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers looming, his immediate focus will be on securing positive results in the upcoming matches against Benin Republic and Rwanda. The first challenge will be on September 7, when the Super Eagles face Benin Republic in Uyo.
As the Super Eagles prepare for these important fixtures, the spotlight will be firmly on Labbadia. His mission is not only to secure qualification for the 2025 AFCON but also to lay the groundwork for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
With the backing of a club like Wolfsburg and the support of Nigerian fans, Labbadia’s journey with the Super Eagles is set to be one to watch.
