Sol Bamba’s wife shares emotional statement following his passing away

In a moving tribute to her late husband, Chloe Bamba has shared a heartfelt statement following the tragic death of Sol Bamba, the former Premier League defender who passed away at the age of just 39.

The Ivorian international, known for his time at Cardiff City and Leeds United, succumbed to a battle with cancer while coaching at Turkish club Adanaspor.

Sol Bamba, who was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin lymphoma in 2021, had made a remarkable comeback to football after announcing he was cancer-free. Despite his successful return to the pitch and subsequent coaching role, his health took a downturn leading up to a weekend fixture, culminating in his untimely death.

Chloe Bamba took to Instagram to express her grief and reflect on her husband’s courageous battle with the illness. “For the last few years I have watched Sol fight his cancer head on with an astounding mental and physical strength and stoicism,” she wrote. “Unfortunately, it was never a fair fight and just when things were looking up he took a downturn and finally succumbed on 31st August.”

Chloe’s poignant words highlight the emotional journey the couple faced. “These years have been indescribably difficult but we still managed to find joy and laughter in it. I’ve experienced my worst days but also some of my best. Sol accepted his fate as God’s will and left this earth knowing, without a shadow of a doubt, that he was loved wholeheartedly. I made sure of that.”

She concluded with a touching tribute, saying, “It was an honour to have loved and been loved by Sol. I learnt so much from him. He is my hero. My heart is breaking. What a gift, what a gift, what a gift to have been loved by him.”

The footballing world has been mourning the loss of Bamba, with several of his former clubs, including Cardiff City, paying their respects. Cardiff City’s statement described Bamba as a “club legend” whose impact was “immeasurable,” highlighting his role as a leader and a beloved figure within the club.
