Beckham reveals Ferguson’s role in Messi’s move to Inter Miami
David Beckham has shared how Sir Alex Ferguson’s advice played a key role in helping Inter Miami sign Lionel Messi. Messi joined the MLS club after his contract with PSG ended, becoming the centrepiece of Miami’s revival.
Speaking on the Rio Ferdinand Presents podcast, Beckham said, “Bringing someone like Messi to America was a gift to the sport here. Sir Alex taught me that it’s not just about signing the biggest names but the right players.”
Beckham added that Messi’s impact goes beyond the pitch. “We knew he would succeed on the field, but we also knew his presence would boost the club off the field. He inspires the next generation in America.”
Since joining Inter Miami, Messi has delivered remarkable performances, scoring 19 goals in 21 matches. He recently netted a hat-trick for Argentina in their 6-0 win over Bolivia in a World Cup qualifier.
At 37 years old, Messi continues to perform at the highest level, cementing his legacy as one of the greatest footballers of all time.
