Austin Eguavoen delivers judgement on NPFL quality after training with Super Eagles B stars

Super Eagles coach Augustine Eguavoen has led the Super Eagles B team in their first training session as they prepare for an important match against Ghana in the 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers. The training took place in Abuja, where the team is currently based.

Eguavoen, who was appointed in September, was pleased with the team’s progress. He said, “Very impressive. Only two sessions but you could see that technically they are very good.” He noted that while the players have shown talent, they still need to work together better as a team.

The Super Eagles B team consists of players from NPFL clubs, and they are training hard to improve their skills and strategies before facing Ghana. The two teams are in the same regional zone for the CHAN qualifiers, promising a fierce competition.

The CHAN tournament will feature players from domestic leagues across Africa and is scheduled to be held in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda from January to February 2025.

After this first training session, the players will return to their clubs for matches in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) this weekend. They are expected to come back together next week to continue their preparations for the upcoming match against Ghana.

Eguavoen aims to keep the team’s momentum going and ensure the players are fit and ready for what is set to be an exciting clash. This rivalry is not just about football; it reflects a deeper cultural competition between Nigeria and Ghana.
