The highly anticipated Video Assistant Referee (VAR) officially made its debut in the Benin Premier League on Saturday evening during the match between Cotton Sport and ASVO FC.

Nigerian coach Fatai Osho, who took charge of ASVO FC this summer, expressed his excitement at being part of this landmark moment in Benin football.

Under Osho’s leadership, ASVO has shown impressive form, continuing their winning streak in the league. In the match, VAR played a crucial role as ASVO secured a 1-0 victory over Cotton Sport, marking a significant milestone in the use of technology in the sport.

Reflecting on the historic match, Osho remarked, “It’s great to be part of history. The first-ever VAR match in the Benin Republic, Cotton Sport 0-1 ASVO FC.” This debut highlights a new era for the Benin Premier League, promising to enhance the game’s fairness and accuracy.
