Not Injury! Real reason why Ola Aina left Super Eagles camp after Benin Republic match
Interim Super Eagles manager Augustine Eguavoen has confirmed why Nigeria will be without Nottingham Forest full-back Ola Aina for their upcoming match against Rwanda on Monday.
The 28-year-old defender has been a consistent presence in Nottingham Forest’s lineup this season, featuring in all their league matches and showcasing his skill with a standout goal against West Ham United, earning him a spot in the BBC Premier League team of the week.
Aina played a significant role in Nigeria’s 1-1 draw against the Republic of Benin, where he was substituted in the 82nd minute due to fatigue.
Eguavoen made the decision to replace him with Fenerbahce’s Osayi-Samuel, as Aina appeared to struggle towards the game’s end.
Ahead of the match against Rwanda, Eguavoen disclosed that Aina had already departed for England, saying, “Forest sent a private jet to get him back to England for their game against Arsenal.” This suggests that the former Chelsea player may have been taken back for his club’s crucial match against Arsenal next weekend.
Nottingham Forest is currently on equal points with Arsenal, each having 19 points from 11 league games, though Arsenal sits slightly above them on goal difference.
