Liverpool Defeat Southampton to Extend Lead Over Manchester City
Liverpool secured a hard-fought 3-2 win against Southampton, going eight points clear of Manchester City in the Premier League title race.
Liverpool started strong, creating early chances, but had to wait until the 30th minute for their first goal. Dominik Szoboszlai capitalised on a defensive error, curling a brilliant shot into the top corner to give the Reds the lead.
Southampton equalised ten minutes later through Adam Armstrong, who scored from a rebound after his penalty was initially saved by Caoimhin Kelleher.
In the second half, Southampton took a surprise lead with a swift counterattack. Mateus Fernandes finished a well-worked move, leaving Liverpool trailing.
Liverpool fought back, with Mohamed Salah equalising after a long ball from Ryan Gravenberch caught Southampton’s defence off guard. Salah calmly slotted the ball into an empty net after rounding the goalkeeper.
The Reds held their ground and secured the crucial victory, keeping their momentum in the title race.

Southampton striker Paul Onuachu, who started the game, had to leave early due to an injury. His absence affected the Saints’ attack as they struggled to maintain their intensity in the final stages.
