Sunday Oliseh backs Augustine Eguavoen to lead Super Eagles to success
Super Eagles legend Sunday Oliseh has expressed his support for Augustine Eguavoen, urging Nigerians to rally behind the team’s interim coach.
Eguavoen took over as the Super Eagles coach earlier this year after Finidi George resigned. Since his appointment, he has revitalised the team, leading them on a strong winning streak in the qualifiers.
Although the Super Eagles lost their final qualifying match against Rwanda, they had already secured a spot in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
Speaking to News Central, Oliseh praised Eguavoen’s leadership and called for patience and support as the team continues its preparations.
“Austin Eguavoen is a smart guy; he is not stupid,” Oliseh said. “He has my full support because he is someone I respect a lot. We worked together to bring glory to our fatherland, and I know he is honest and capable.”
Oliseh highlighted Eguavoen’s qualities and described him as a deserving leader for the national team.
With Eguavoen at the helm, the Super Eagles aim to overcome their challenges and perform well at the upcoming AFCON tournament.
