Alex Iwobi admits his goals against West Ham were flukes

Super Eagles star Alex Iwobi has admitted that both of his goals in Fulham’s 3-2 loss to West Ham United were unintended.

The Nigerian midfielder added to his impressive Premier League tally, taking his total for the season to seven goals and three assists. However, his brace was not enough to prevent Fulham from suffering defeat, as defensive lapses allowed West Ham to secure victory at the London Stadium.

Disappointed but Determined
Speaking to Fulham TV after the match, Iwobi expressed frustration with the result.

“We’re all disappointed, especially with the way we lost the game; it was just mistakes, but everyone makes mistakes at the end of the day,” he said.

Iwobi acknowledged that Fulham created enough chances to win, including hitting the woodwork twice, but costly errors proved their undoing.

“If you don’t defend as a team, if you make these mistakes, then in the Premier League, everyone can punish us. We just have to work on that, cut out the mistakes, and I’m sure we’ll be able to beat teams like West Ham,” he added.

Admitting the Fluke
When reflecting on his two goals, Iwobi revealed that neither was intended as a shot.

“It doesn’t matter who scored. The main thing is to try and get the three points. I’ll just take the two goals if they’re mine,” he said with a smile.

He continued: “Of course, I won’t say I took a shot. I was aiming for both of them—Raul Jimenez and Harry Wilson. I was just trying to create chances for my teammates; I wasn’t trying to score.”

Despite the unintended nature of his goals, Iwobi remains focused on contributing to the team.

“Whether I’m scoring or creating, as long as we get the goals, I’m easy,” he concluded.

While the night ended in disappointment for Fulham, Iwobi’s honesty and commitment to team success highlight his growing influence as one of the Premier League’s top creative players this season.
