Youngsters Shine as Akwa Ibom Secondary Schools Invitational Tournament Kicks Off

The Akwa Ibom State Secondary Schools Invitational Football Tournament has officially begun, with Community Comprehensive Secondary School, Four Towns, securing their spot in the final after a commanding 4-1 win over Methodist Boys High School, Oron in the first semi-final on Thursday, February 27, 2025, at the Uyo Township Stadium.

The match, which saw an excited crowd of students, staff, football fans, and alumni from both schools, was kicked off by Mr. Samuel Umoh, Chairman of the Akwa Ibom State Football Association (AKSFA). Also in attendance were Pastor Emmanuel Ebong, Director of Sports for the State Education Board, and AKSFA board members.

Community Comprehensive Secondary School, Four Towns, came out strong from the start, with Saviour Bassey scoring the opening goal with a well-timed header from a corner kick. Just two minutes later, Kingsley Aaron extended their lead to 2-0, which stood at halftime.

The second half saw further goals from Joseph Effiong and Etteobong, effectively sealing the win for Community Comprehensive Secondary School, Four Towns. Despite the loss, Methodist Boys High School, Oron, showed spirit, with Joshua Iyohokwa scoring a late consolation goal.

David Okung of Methodist Boys High School, Oron, was named Player of the Match for his brilliant midfield performance, earning praise from the spectators at the Uyo Township Stadium.

The second semi-final match between Uyo High School and State College, Ikot Ekpene, will take place on Friday, February 28, 2025, at 11 a.m. at the same venue.

The grand finale of the tournament, themed Play, Learn, and Become, will be held on March 11, 2025. The female final, featuring West Itam Secondary School and Community Secondary School, Aka Offot, will kick off at 1 p.m., followed by the boys’ final at 3 p.m. at the Uyo Township Stadium.
