Tolu Arokodare Eager for Super Eagles Debut After First Call-Up

Tolu Arokodare  says he is full of excitement and ready to give his all after receiving his first call-up to the Super Eagles squad.

The 24-year-old striker, who plays for Belgian club Genk, was included in Nigeria’s team by head coach Eric Chelle ahead of their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. Arokodare has scored 19 goals in all competitions this season, making him Nigeria’s third-highest goalscorer in Europe behind Cyriel Dessers (22 goals) and Victor Osimhen (26 goals).

Speaking about his call-up, the former FC Koln striker could not hide his emotions.
“I still don’t know how to feel,” Arokodare said. “It’s a mix of only great feelings for my family and me. I can’t wait to put on that shirt.”

Arokodare has been in fine form for Genk and recently scored in their 2-1 win over Union St-Gilloise, the former club of his Super Eagles teammate Victor Boniface. He hopes to carry that confidence into his time with the national team.
“It’s always good to help the team with a goal—that’s my job. But the three points are the most important,” he told Voetbalnieuws. “The confidence within the team is great, and we were very motivated after the previous result.”

Now in camp with Victor Osimhen and five other players, Arokodare will be training with the Super Eagles in Kigali. He is hoping to make his debut when Nigeria face Rwanda on Friday in a crucial World Cup qualifying match.
