CAF Investigates Algeria Ahead of WAFCON Clash with Super Falcons

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has started an official investigation into the Algerian Women’s National Team for possible violations of CAF rules during the ongoing 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
CAF announced the investigation on Thursday but did not give details about the alleged offences. However, the move follows rising concerns about Algeria’s behaviour off the pitch, including actions believed to be influenced by political tensions.
“CAF has opened an investigation against the Algerian Women’s National Team on alleged violations of the CAF Statutes and Regulations during the ongoing TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, Morocco 2024,” the statement read.
CAF also said it would not comment further until the investigation is completed.
The announcement comes just days before Algeria face Nigeria’s Super Falcons in their final group game. Nigeria, who have won the tournament nine times, will be watching closely, although CAF has not said whether the case will affect Algeria’s place in the match or the competition.
There have been reports of Algeria leaving out Moroccan symbols and names from official materials, adding to tensions between the two North African nations. These actions have raised concerns about how politics might be affecting the spirit of the tournament.
CAF’s investigation is seen as an effort to protect the unity and fairness of African football during one of its biggest competitions.
