Calvin Bassey Reveals Where Fulham Went Wrong in Defeat to Everton

Super Eagles defender Calvin Bassey has admitted that Fulham must improve their defending at set-pieces after their 2-0 defeat to Everton on Saturday.

The loss at the Hill Dickinson Stadium means the Cottagers are still without an away win this season and now sit just one point above the relegation zone after eleven league games.

Speaking after the match, Bassey said Fulham were well prepared for the physical battle but failed to maintain control of the game and defend key moments.

“I mean, we knew this game was going to be a fight. Beto, Barry — they’re all fighters, and they made life difficult for us,” the Nigerian international told Sporty TV.

“I just think we could’ve been more dynamic, maybe in the first half. We could’ve controlled the game better. We had control, and we just kind of lost it again. We have to do better in set-pieces.”

Bassey also pointed out that most of the goals Fulham have conceded this season came from avoidable situations.

“We’ve conceded 16 goals, and 10 of them have been from set-pieces or personal errors, so we’ve got to do better,” he said.

The former Rangers and Ajax defender added that the upcoming international break will allow the team to reset.

“Now it’s time to go away, and for the boys to focus on the national team. It gives everyone a chance to breathe before we get back to the Premier League,” Bassey concluded.

Bassey will now link up with the Super Eagles squad in Morocco as Nigeria prepare for their 2026 World Cup play-off against Gabon.
