What Mikel Obi Said About the Super Eagles After the 2025 AFCON Squad Was Announced

Former Chelsea and Super Eagles midfielder John Obi Mikel believes Nigeria can win the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
Nigeria, who have won the competition three times, will be hoping to lift the trophy for the fourth time next month. The team has had a tough period recently after failing to qualify for the FIFA World Cup, but winning AFCON would give fans something to celebrate.
Head coach Eric Chelle released a 55-man provisional squad two weeks ago. On Thursday, the final deadline, he announced his 28-man squad for the tournament.
The final list includes five new players who are hoping to make their first appearance for the national team. However, some well-known names were not selected.
Mikel, who captained Nigeria to the AFCON title in 2013, reacted to the squad announcement on social media. He simply wrote, “Bring it home lads.”
Can Nigeria Win AFCON 2025?
Nigeria are once again seen as one of the favourites for the tournament. The squad includes several top-quality players who can make a big impact.
However, the team has struggled to perform consistently and has sometimes failed to beat supposedly weaker opponents. Because of this, many supporters are not expecting too much.
Even so, the Super Eagles often perform better when pressure is low. If they can come together at the right time, they may surprise the continent and win their fourth AFCON title in Morocco.
