Daniel Daga Maintains Innocence as Investigation Raises Questions Over Norway Allegation

Flying Eagles midfielder Daniel Daga has continued to maintain his innocence after being charged with an alleged sexual assault in Norway, as a private investigation by SportsRation claims the Nigerian footballer is a victim of false accusations.
Daga, who plays for Norwegian club Molde FK, was charged following a complaint made after an encounter with a woman in Norway. Molde confirmed the development in a statement released on Friday evening.
According to SportsRation, findings from its private investigation suggest that the accusation against Daga is not supported by strong evidence and that the player may have been targeted for possible extortion. The report insists that available information points to the encounter being consensual and expresses confidence that Daga will emerge cleared of wrongdoing.
Despite strongly denying the allegation, Daga has been suspended from training and match activities while the case is being handled through legal processes.
Molde FK stated that the midfielder has fully cooperated with Norwegian authorities, attended all police interrogations during the investigation and later returned to Nigeria. He is expected to return to Norway ahead of court hearings scheduled for March 2026 at the Nordmøre and Romsdal District Court.
“This is a serious matter, and we take the charges very seriously,” Molde chairman Odd Ivar Moen said. “These types of cases are extremely demanding for everyone involved.”
The club also confirmed it has been in contact with the complainant’s legal representatives, acknowledging the emotional burden associated with the case. The complainant’s lawyer, Anette Western Torgersen, declined to comment on details, saying only that the case represents “a great burden for the victim.”
Daga’s legal team has firmly denied any wrongdoing. His lawyer, Astrid Bolstad, confirmed that while her client acknowledges a sexual encounter took place, he insists it was consensual.
“My client does not plead guilty and believes he has done nothing illegal,” Bolstad said. “There is no suspicion of violence or threats. He looks forward to having the case heard in court so he can clear his name.”
She added that Daga has been deeply affected by the charge and was surprised that the investigation resulted in formal prosecution.
The teenager joined Molde FK ahead of the 2025 season and made 17 appearances in all competitions, becoming a regular presence in midfield during his debut campaign in Norwegian football.
As the legal process continues, Molde FK has reiterated its commitment to fairness, responsibility and respect for all parties involved.
