AFCON 2025: Osayi-Samuel Praises Chukwueze After Super Eagles Win Over Tanzania

Birmingham City defender Bright Osayi-Samuel has praised Samuel Chukwueze for his strong display in Nigeria’s opening match at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

Chukwueze, who is on loan at Fulham from AC Milan, did not score or register an assist in the Super Eagles’ 2–1 win over Tanzania. However, his influence was clear, especially in Nigeria’s attacking play.

After the match, Osayi-Samuel highlighted the winger’s impact and the importance of teamwork in the Super Eagles’ performance.

Speaking to Soccernet.ng, Osayi-Samuel said he enjoys playing alongside Chukwueze and believes their understanding will continue to improve.

“I love playing with him. We play on the same side, so my job is to give him the ball and make runs into space,” Osayi-Samuel said. “He has been doing well in the Premier League, and you could see his quality in the game. The more we play together, the better he will become for the team.”

Osayi-Samuel also stressed the need for the team to be more clinical in front of goal as the tournament progresses.

“We created quite a few chances but did not take them. The more we play together, understand each other’s strengths, and supply our number nine, the better our chances will be,” he added.

Chukwueze came into AFCON 2025 in good form, having recorded six goal involvements in the Premier League before the tournament, with two goals and four assists.

Against Tanzania, he played for 59 minutes and troubled the defence with his direct runs, completing several dribbles, winning duels, and making key touches inside the penalty area.

The Super Eagles will now turn their attention to their next Group C match against Tunisia on December 27.
