Lookman Hails Team Effort After Super Eagles’ 3-2 AFCON Win Over Tunisia

Atalanta winger Ademola Lookman has praised Nigeria’s strong team performance after playing a key role in the Super Eagles’ dramatic 3-2 win over Tunisia at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Lookman was named Man of the Match in Saturday’s Group C game in Morocco. He scored one goal and provided two assists as Nigeria raced into a 3-0 lead before surviving a late fightback from Tunisia. Victor Osimhen and Wilfred Ndidi were also on target, breaking down a defence that had not conceded during World Cup qualifiers.
Speaking after the match, Lookman urged the team to stay focused. “We have to keep working hard and keep the same focus,” he said. “The team has been strong in our performances, and that has given us the space to create chances.”
After two group matches, Lookman has recorded four goal contributions, more than any other player at AFCON 2025.
He was at the heart of Nigeria’s attack, providing the cross for Osimhen’s first-half header, setting up Ndidi early in the second half, and then scoring himself to make it 3-0. At that point, Nigeria appeared to be in full control.
However, Tunisia fought back late in the game. Montassar Talbi scored from a set piece before a penalty reduced the gap to one goal. Nigeria held on through stoppage time to secure the win, book a place in the last 16, and extend their run of reaching the AFCON knockout stage.
Despite winning the Man of the Match award, Lookman played down the individual honour. “It’s a nice gift, but the most important thing is winning games,” he said. “Not every day will be perfect, but as long as you keep showing up, it will be good.”
He added that the victory has boosted the team’s confidence. “It gives us more belief to continue the way we are playing. We want to win, and we have the drive and focus to do that.”
Lookman also thanked the fans for their support. “Please keep supporting us. We really need you behind us,” he said.
Nigeria will face Uganda in their final group match. A positive result will secure top spot in Group C and a favourable draw in the knockout stage.
