AFCON 2025: Mozambique President Offers HUGE Bonus for Victory Over Nigeria at AFCON

Mozambique President Daniel Francisco Chapo has promised a cash bonus of 500,000 meticais to each player and member of the coaching staff if the national team defeat Nigeria at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

Local newspaper Jornal Notícias reported that the incentive was announced on Thursday after the Mambas qualified for the Round of 16 of the tournament in Morocco, where they will face Nigeria’s Super Eagles.

Mozambique reached the knockout stage as one of the best third-placed teams, despite a 2-1 loss to Cameroon in their final Group F match. President Chapo described the qualification as historic and a major source of pride for the country.

In a message to the players and coaches, the president praised their courage, discipline and determination during the group stage. He said the bonus would be paid if Mozambique beat Nigeria and reach the quarter-finals.

Nigeria have been one of the strongest teams at the tournament, winning all their group matches and emerging as one of the favourites for the title. This makes the last-16 clash a big challenge for Mozambique.

Mozambique had a mixed group campaign, losing to Ivory Coast, beating Gabon, and then falling to Cameroon.

The Round of 16 match between Nigeria and Mozambique will be played at the Complexe Sportif de Fès on Monday, 5 January, with kick-off set for 8:00pm local time.

Other Round of 16 matches include Morocco vs Tanzania, Mali vs Tunisia, Algeria vs DR Congo, Egypt vs Benin, Senegal vs Sudan, Côte d’Ivoire vs Burkina Faso, and South Africa vs Cameroon.
