Mozambique Star Guima Warns Super Eagles Ahead of AFCON Round of 16 Clash

Mozambique midfielder Guima has warned the Super Eagles not to underestimate his team ahead of their AFCON 2025 Round of 16 match.
Mozambique will face three-time African champions Nigeria on Monday at the Complexe Sportif de Fes. Nigeria go into the game as clear favourites after winning all three of their group matches.
The Super Eagles also have a stronger history and more well-known players, which has made many fans expect a comfortable Nigerian victory. However, football can be unpredictable, and Nigeria have sometimes struggled against teams of similar level in the past.
Speaking ahead of the match, Guima said Mozambique’s biggest strength is their teamwork rather than individual stars.
He explained that the team plays as a unit and believes this togetherness sets them apart from others. According to him, Mozambique do not rely on individual brilliance but on collective effort, which has helped the national team improve in recent years.
Guima is expected to start against Nigeria and will be hoping to inspire his side to a strong performance.
Despite his comments, Mozambique’s main threat remains Geny Catamo, who has been one of their standout players at the tournament. If Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle is able to limit Catamo’s influence, Nigeria should have a good chance of winning the match.
Although Nigeria are heavy favourites, they will need to remain cautious. Mozambique have already tested themselves against strong teams in the group stage and gained valuable experience.
The Super Eagles will be aiming to settle the match within 90 minutes so they can rest and prepare properly for the quarter-finals.
