Sabalenka advances after tight Win, set to face Mboko next
World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka moved into the next round of the Australian Open after a hard fought win over Anastasia Potapova on Rod Laver Arena.
Sabalenka won 7-6(4), 7-6(7) after building early leads in both sets and then saving four set points in the second set tiebreak to close out the match.
Next, Sabalenka will face Victoria Mboko, who reached the Round of 16 with a three set win over Clara Tauson. Mboko won 7-6(5), 5-7, 6-3, coming back from missing three match points earlier in the contest. This also marks the teenager’s first appearance in the second week of a Grand Slam.
On the other side, Daniil Medvedev rallied from two sets down to defeat Fabian Marozsan, while Elina Svitolina continued her run with a straight-sets victory.
