CAF Champions League: Power Dynamos arrive in Uyo ahead of Rivers United clash

Power Dynamos FC of Zambia have arrived in Uyo ahead of their CAF Champions League Matchday Four fixture against Rivers United.

According to a notice issued by the Liaison Officer, Nsikakabasi Akpan, the Zambian side touched down at the Victor Attah International Airport at 8:25pm on Wednesday, January 28, 2026. They were received by officials of Rivers United and the Akwa Ibom State Football Association before moving to their designated hotel in the city.

The match is scheduled for Sunday, February 1, 2026, at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo. Power Dynamos will hold their mandatory pre-match training session at the venue on Saturday, with the opening 15 minutes open to the media.

Meanwhile, Power Dynamos head coach Osward Mutapa has reacted to concerns over his team’s lack of goals in the ongoing CAF Champions League group stage.

The Kitwe-based side have failed to score in three matches so far, including a 0-0 draw against Rivers United at the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola last weekend. Despite creating several chances, Dynamos were unable to break down Rivers United goalkeeper Osagie Onisodumeya, who produced a strong performance.

Speaking to the club’s media team, Mutapa said the responsibility for scoring goals lies with the players.

“Football is played with pressure. The way we are creating chances, I don’t think we are a team that can’t score. We are a team that, at any given time, can even score four goals,” he said.

“Yes, we are missing a lot of chances, but I don’t think it is the coach who is supposed to go in and score those chances.”

The 52-year-old added that his players must take responsibility in front of goal, despite their difficult start to the group stage, where they sit bottom of Group A with one point.

“These are the same players that won us the league, and the same players that have been scoring. We just ask for responsibility to take their chances,” Mutapa said.

Looking ahead to the return fixture in Uyo, the coach insisted his side can still get back into contention, despite trailing joint leaders RS Berkane and Pyramids FC by six points.

“We are always playing all the games to win, and the game against Rivers in Nigeria is the same. It is an important game for us,” he added.

Mutapa also highlighted the importance of defence, noting that his team have kept four consecutive clean sheets in all competitions.

“If we are able to keep clean sheets, then try to create as many chances and score, then all will be fine,” he said.

Power Dynamos have travelled with a strong squad, including Nigerian defender Samuel Bamidele, Zambian international Dominic Chanda and Kenyan forward Moses Shumah. Most of the players who featured in the first leg against Rivers United are also part of the travelling party.

The team arrived in Lusaka on Tuesday before departing for Nigeria in the early hours of Wednesday.
