Godswill Akpabio United Declare Energy Kennedy AWOL, Notify NNL and NFF

Nigeria National League (NNL) side Godswill Akpabio United FC have declared their forward, Energy Kennedy Otunuya, absent without official leave (AWOL).
In a club statement shared on Friday, January 30, 2026, the Uyo-based club said the player has failed to return to training since the team resumed for the second stanza of the 2025/2026 NNL season.
According to the statement, Energy Kennedy last featured for the club in their league match against Osun United on January 9, 2026. However, since training resumed on January 19, 2026, the forward “has failed to report for training and has not communicated with the club in any official capacity.”
The club described the situation as “a serious breach of contract and club disciplinary regulations,” adding that the player “remains a registered player under a valid contract with Godswill Akpabio United Football Club.”
Godswill Akpabio United also confirmed that the matter has been reported to the appropriate authorities. The club said it has “duly notified the Nigeria National League Board and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) of this development” and will “pursue all appropriate disciplinary and regulatory measures in line with football governing rules.”
Energy Kennedy has been one of Godswill Akpabio United’s standout players since joining the club last season and featured throughout the first stanza of the current campaign.
Meanwhile, sources say the forward is currently training with Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) side Bayelsa United, despite still being under contract with the NNL club.
Godswill Akpabio United FC added that it will provide further updates on the matter when necessary.
