Wilshere, Chambers to play as Arsenal eyes first EFL Cup since 1993
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Jack Wilshere and Calum Chambers will both be in the mix for tomorrow night’s EFL Cup tie with Doncaster Rovers.
Wilshere made his first Gunners appearance in 383 days last week when he came off the bench for their 3-1 victory over FC Koln in the Europa League and is now in line for a runout against the League One side.
Speaking to the official Arsenal website, Wenger confirmed the inclusion of both Wilshere and Chambers, describing his probable matchday squad as “a similar team to the one that played against [Koln]”.
As for Mesut Ozil, who missed the goalless draw with Chelsea due to a knee injury, he added: “Mesut is training again, but for tomorrow no [he will not feature]. He has a little inflammation of his knee.”
Arsenal have never won the EFL Cup, formerly known as the League Cup, under Wenger and last lifted the trophy in the 1992-93 season.
