Good start for the Green Hornets at the 2017 Africa Hockey Cup
The women national team of Nigeria, the Green Hornets, have started the 2017 Africa Hockey Championships in grand style.
The lowly-ranked Nigerian team was forced to a draw by the hosts Egypt in their first game in Ismailia, Egypt on Sunday.
Nigeria ranked 62 in the world played against a strong Egyptian side but didn’t have to wait for long before Ikiroko Bomeigha Faith put the Green Hornets in front in the first quarter through a well worked out short corner.
The hosts quickly pegged the Green Hornets back in the first quarter. The second, third and fourth quarters didn’t change the scoreline and at full time it ended 1-1.
Up next for the Hornets is a clash against the favourites South Africa on Monday.
Also in action later today is the men national team as they tackle Egypt men national team by 3 pm.
