Egypt with -17 goal difference could still beat Nigeria to the last four
It is not falling according to plans for the Nigeria national teams at the 2017 Africa Hockey Nations Championship ongoing in Egypt.
After defeats to both Kenya teams yesterday, the men’s team are practically out but the women stood a big chance if they could pull a result against their rivals Ghana today but they fell to a late goal yet again.
The Nigeria national women’s hockey team, Green Hornet, will have to wait till Saturday to know their fate at the ongoing Africa Hockey Cup of Nation in Egypt.
The Hornets suffered a narrow defeat to rivals Ghana in their last game today to remain 4th on the log but will not proceed to the semi-final until the last games in the women categories to be played on Saturday, particularly the one involving Kenya and Egypt.
Nigeria started the competition with a 1-1 draw against Egypt before losing 5-0 to South Africa and a 1-0 last-minute defeat to Kenya yesterday. The ladies fought tooth and nail again today but fell to a third-quarter Elizabeth Opoku’s screamer.
A win for Kenya against hosts Egypt will put Nigeria into the next round, while a draw for Egypt in the game will make them join already qualified South Africa, Ghana, and Kenya.
