Mercedes to analyse late-season results

After Nico Rosberg enjoyed a superb ending to the 2015 Formula One season, Mercedes boss Toto Wolff says the team will look into the German’s dominance over Lewis Hamilton.

Hamilton’s victory at the United States Grand Prix secured him a second successive world title with three races to spare in another imperious season for Mercedes.

But it was Rosberg who finished the campaign much the stronger, winning the last three races in Mexico, Brazil and Abu Dhabi to end the year 59 points behind his team-mate.

And Wolff says the reasons for such a change in fortunes for both men will be looked into.

“What I can say is that there have been a lot of discussions lately about whether Nico has stepped up, whether the car has come more towards him development-wise, or whether Lewis has unconsciously just taken it a bit too easy,” he said.

“I have no answer to that. We have to make an audit in the next couple of weeks and analyse what happened in the last couple of races.

“I think that in the end for Lewis the title mattered and I honestly also have to say that these last couple of races were great driving from Nico’s side.

“The car has been developed and has improved. After Singapore we developed in a different direction based on the learnings we took on board from that weekend.

“Whether the car has come more to Nico – or has gone away from Lewis – I don’t know.

“It could be a factor, but I wouldn’t want to reduce it to one single issue. There could be many possible factors coming into the picture and playing a role.”
