Stoke City would ‘love’ to lift League Cup – Mark Hughes

Stoke City manager Mark Hughes has admitted that he would “love” to win the League Cup with the Potters after a 2-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday fired them into the semi-finals of the competition.

The former Wales boss expressed his desire to lift the trophy at Wembley, but admitted that the remaining Premier League sides will be tough to overcome.

“If we’d allowed them a foothold in the game they could have caused problems but we didn’t, which is pleasing. We restricted them after scoring the first goal,” BBC Sport quotes Hughes as saying.

“We would love to go all the way but there are some good teams remaining in the competition.”

Addressing his side’s chances in the semi-finals of the League Cup, Hughes added: “Over two legs, I would back ourselves against anybody”.

Stoke’s win over the Owls secured their spot in the semi-finals of the tournament for the fist time since they won it in 1972.
