Akwa United qualify for State FA semis despite 3-1 aggregate loss to Algon Boys FC
Debutant Algon Boys Football Club have been disqualified from this year’s Akwa Ibom State Football Association Cup competition after fielding an ineligible player Imo Emmanuel in their squad.
Algon Boys defeated record champions Akwa United 3-1 in the quarter final but they have been kicked out of the competition following a protest filed by Akwa United on the eligibility of goalkeeper Imo Emmanuel who is a bonafide player of Akwa United.
With the FA verdict, Akwa United are through to the semi final and will engage Palm Tigers FC of Abak on Saturday at the Nest of champions by Eleven O’clock in the morning.
Imo Emmanuel is a promising young goalkeeper who was snapped up by the technical crew of Akwa United seven months ago during a local tournament but despite never playing a match for the Promise Keepers,he has been on the club’s payroll and has also been training with the club since October 2018.
