Sergio Aguero and Ferran Torres got the goals as Manchester City picked up a deserved 2-0 win over Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park to leave them on the brink of Pep Guardiola’s third English Premier League title in his time at the club.
After a scoreless first half, club legend and all-time top scorer, Sergio Aguero took it upon himself to break the deadlock for his team, and he did so in vintage Aguero style. Receiving a cross from Benjamin Mendy out wide, Aguero did not break stride as he raced into the box, collected the ball and finished powerfully at full stretch at the near post, beating Crystal Palace goalkeeper, Vincente Guaita and putting City in front. Shortly after, Spanish youngster Ferran Torres doubled their lead as Manchester City picked up a comfortable 2-0 win. The goal scored by Aguero was historic, as it was his first ever at Selhurst Park since Crystal Palace came into the Premier League, and it helped him complete his goalscoring cycle. It was also his 182nd Premier League goal for Manchester City, leaving him only 1 behind Wayne Rooney for most Premier League goals scored for a single club.
Manchester City’s victory today leaves them needing a Liverpool win over Manchester United tomorrow to be crowned champions for a third time in the past four seasons. If Liverpool fail to defeat Manchester United, City can clinch the Premier League title against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge next weekend.
