Another twist to Osimhen AFCON availability with latest news from Napoli

Napoli have confirmed that their star player Victor Osimhen has contracted Covid during his latest holidays to Nigeria.

Victor Osimhen who recently recovered from a facial injury has been a subject of club and country tussle.

Napoli who paid African record fee to sign Victor Osimhen from Lille wants him to stay in Italy so he fully recovers.

They also want him to dishonour the invitation extended to him by Nigeria to lead the Eagles to AFCON 2021 amidts Omicron fears.

In fact, a Napoli lawyer promised to take a legal action against the nations who extend invitations to their African players.

Despite the news from Italy, Victor Osimhen has declared himself fit and ready for the tournament while the NFF is counting on him to lead the Eagles.

But this may have taken a another twist after the latest news from Napoli who confirmed Victor Osimhen has asymptomatic Covid.

“SSC Napoli has announced that Victor Osimhen has tested positive for Covid-19 but is asymptomatic. Dr. Tartaro will perform a check-up on the player tomorrow.”

Victor was due to see Professor Giampaolo Tartaro who operated on him for the final ok but Napoli prefer Victor Osimhen to recover fully in Italy.

It was even reported during the week that Napoli would like Nigeria to let Osimhen be and if he must be played, he should be used in from the semis if Nigeria get there.

Now, they confirmed he has asymptomatic Covid and he contracted it during his visit to Nigeria.

We would continue to follow the situation but it looks like Napoli will do everything to stop Victor Osimhen from representing Nigeria at AFCON 2021.
