Anthony Nwakaeme helps Trabzonspor claim first Turkish Super Lig title in 38 years

No Trabzonspor player contributed more to the title success than Anthony Nwakaeme

Anthony Nwakaeme has helped his Turkish club Trabzonspor to claim their first league title in 38 years after a 2-2 draw against Antalyaspor at the Medical Park Stadium on Saturday.

With four games to the end of the campaign, going into the clash against Antalyaspor, Trabzonspor needed to avoid defeat to win their first title since 1984 and they did just that.

Andreas Cornelius and Dorukhan Tokoz scored the goals for Trabzonspor while Alassane Ndao and Haji Wright helped the visitors to draw level twice in the game.

Super Eagles striker Anthony Nwakaeme who was just recovering from an injury was named on the substitute bench but never played.

However, the Nigerian striker had done enough to help his side claim the Turkish title for the first time in 38 years.

With 11 goals and 10 assists for a total of 21 goals contribution, no Trabzonspor player had such contribution this season.

The closest is Danish striker Andreas Cornelius who has 15 goals and 3 assists making 18 goals contribution.

Anthony Nwakaeme who scored 11 goals and 10 assists in 27 league games has now won the league titles in Israel and Turkey.

He won the three Israeli Premier League titles in 2015-16, 2016-2017, and 2017-2018 with Hapoel Be’er Sheva and now the Turkish Super Lig title with Trabzonspor.
