Ese Brume breaks CWG records thrice, reclaims gold in women’s Long Jump to take Nigeria’s tally to 35

Ese Brume has reclaimed her long jump Commonwealth gold medal after breaking the game’s record twice to win the top prize at Birmingham 2022.

The 26-year-old who started fouled on her opening attempt as Ruth Usoro the other Nigerian in the final jumped 6.56m on her first attempt to place 4th at the time.

Ghana’s Deborah Acquah currently led with a Personal Best of 6.94m but Ese Brume came back and jumped 6.99m to push the Ghanaian to the second spot.

Ese Brume’s 6.99m became the new commonwealth games record – a target for every other jumper at the event to beat.

She broke the games record again with her 5th attempt jumping 6.996m

No one came close and Ese Brume assured of her gold medal and games record went again and broke the games record with her 7.00m leap for the third time.

This is Ese Brume’s second Commonwealth gold medal, she won her first in 2018 when she was just 18.

Nigeria’s Elizabeth Oshoba lost the Gold to Michaela Walsh from Northern Ireland in the Women’s Featherweight final bout by a unanimous decision (0-5) to settle for the silver medal.

At the end of day 6, Nigeria added four more medals to increase the haul to 35.
