Tanzania U-23 Vs Nigeria U-23: Match Preview, qualification path plus U-23 Cup of Nations history

Tanzania will on Saturday October 22, 2022 host Nigeria in a Total Africa U-23 Cup of Nations qualification encounter.

ABOUT THE MATCH

Tanzania will host Nigeria in the first leg of the Total Africa U-23 Cup of Nations qualification match on Saturday October 22, 2022.

The match will take place at the Benjamin Mpaka stadium in Dar Es Salaam with kickoff scheduled for 4pm local time (2pm Nigerian time).

The second leg will hold on October 28 in Nigeria at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Ibadan.

The aggregate winner will progress to the next round.

ROAD TO THE AFRICA U-23 CUP OF NATIONS 

The Africa U-23 Cup of Nations has three qualification rounds. Tanzania face Nigeria in the second qualification round.

For the 2023 edition, Nigeria was drawn bye for the first qualification round while their second round opponents began the journey from the off vs South Sudan in September 2022.

In the first qualifying round game, Tanzania’s U-23 team played a 0-0 draw vs South Sudan in the first leg followed by a 3-3 second leg result in South Sudan to progress on away goals.

Tanzania vs Nigeria face-off for a place in the third qualifying round scheduled for March 2023.

The Eight winners from the third qualifying round will book a place at the 2023 Total Africa U-23 Cup of Nations tournament.

TANZANIA AND NIGERIA AT THE AFRICA U-23 CUP OF NATIONS: HISTORY

Tanzania has never participated in the Africa U-23 Cup of Nations since it’s inception in 2011.

Nigeria on their part have played in all three previous editions of the tournament and even won the tournament in 2015, defeating Algeria 2-1 to be crowned champions in Senegal.

Gabon (2011) and Egypt (2019) are the other winners of the Africa U-23 Cup of Nations tournament.

Morroco will host the 2023 Total Africa U-23 Cup of Nations tournament.

The Africa U-23 Cup of Nations tournament serves as qualification path to the Olympic games.

THE EAGLES

The Coach Salisu Yusuf tutored Nigeria U-23 Eagles team will be skippered by Success Makanjuola.

The CD Diocesano of Spain winger is optimistic Nigeria is ready to get a positive result in Dar Es Salaam vs Tanzania.

He said ” All players in camp now are very fit, we are well-motivated and ready to give our all to get the needed victory in Tanzania.

” We understand that good number of foreign based players had visa issues resuming to camp in Ibadan, but then, Coach Salisu Yusuf-led technical crew had perfected strategies to ensure victory in today’s clash. “
